“Hi, I’m Jaylene J. Together with Amanda Reid – Makeup Assistant, James Moudakis – Special FX and Head Makeup Artist, Kirstin Pawlicki, together we form the Makeup Department for Theatre of the Dead. We spend most of our time in the makeup and dressing rooms as well as on set making the main characters look great and making the zombies look oh so gruesome!

It’s day 8 today and we will be working through to the early hours of the morning. One would think it’s a tedious task to ask of someone but everyone on set from the talented cast and crew has been fantastic; keeping up high spirits and positive attitudes making working together such a positive and great experience.

When on set, I have been checking makeup in between takes seeing what it looks like in real life and how it looks via the video cameras and equipment used to film this great production. The hardest issue to deal with I find is continuity! As the scenes for the film are not being shot in order, one of your characters may have normal makeup, then require a more sickly makeup and go back to normal makeup. Our job is to make sure the makeup always looks right for the desired scene that is shot. It’s not always an easy task but a challenging and rewarding one.

Normally I am used to doing makeup for photo-shoots, weddings and special occasions, but I am so glad I was given this opportunity to work of Theatre of the Dead. I have gained some great experience and insight about the film industry, as well as the opportunity to develop my special FX makeup artistry further, which is an area I am extremely interested in will be pursuing in the near future.

I cannot wait till see the result of everyone’s hard work down the track and eagerly wait the release of this fantastic feature length production that is Theatre of the Dead.”

A Few Words from: the Director of Photography, “Miguel” Gallagher

Patrick 'Miguel' Gallagher

Patrick Gallagher is the Director of Photography on Theatre of the Dead. He shares his name with our writer and director, Patrick J Gallagher, so on set he is called “P2″ or “Miguel”. He is a seasoned cameraman and DOP with many years of industry experience. “Miguel” [P2] has worked with Patrick [P1] for numerous years on short film projects and too confuse everyone more, they even have desks next to each other at their day job working in the Parliamentary Broadcasting Services.

“Wow, what a roller coaster ride, It’s 1am and we have just finished
shooting day 6 of Theatre of the Dead. We have covered an amazing amount
of ground. I always knew that shooting a feature film in 17 days was going
to be a monumental task but I didn’t realise the pace would be so
frenetic. Earlier today we passed the 700 slate mark and a lot of that is
because Crick [1st AD, Christian Doran] is riding hard to get this film made on time but no-ones cares because he does it in a loveable way with a smile.
As Director of Photography I have been really pleased to see that despite
the mad rush we are shooting at we are still be getting beautiful pictures
to tell the story with. I think that the way the camera crew seemed to
gel and come together in a way I would have expected to take so much
longer has been really fantastic and they should be applauded for it. They
have been working at a breakneck pace and I haven’t heard any of them so
much as hint at being tired or upset.
Looking at the rushes, everything seems to be coming together so well. On
screen Josh’s sets are outstanding, Warren’s stunts look awesome and the
actors and extras look amazing all done up.
It looks like Dan, John and Pat are going to pull off an amazing feat.
Well done everyone.”
