Zombies on the Money

Zombies on the Money

well on the way!

The Theatre of the Dead crowdfunding campaign has begun!

On Halloween a chained zombie pressed the button at the media launch and the campaign went live through the website Indiegogo.  The launch took place in front of an audience of media, government officials, industry representatives and members of the public at the Performing Arts Services Hub (PASH) in Civic.  Within minutes donations started coming in.  Already well over 10% of the target of $15,000 has been achieved.  The campaign runs for another 69 days.

Crowdfunding is one of several models used by the producers to raise funds for this exciting venture.  This model uses small donations from lots of people to cover the costs of special effects make-up, theatre hire, equipment, catering and the like.

Direct investment is another model, typically of larger amounts. These funds are used to cover the costs of establishing a sound legal and financial framework for the film. (Already over $10,000 has been invested by local business people.)  By adopting best practice business principles, the viability and marketability of the feature is greatly enhanced.

On Monday Oct 31st 2011, Halloween, feature film Theatre of the Dead launched it’s crowdfunding campaign at Performing Arts Services Hub (PASH) in Canberra City.

The event was a rousing success with members of government, media, the film community and the general public in attendance as producers Daniel Sanguineti and John Cougar and writer/director Patrick J Gallagher presented on the film’s funding raising push, the production process, the inspiration for the film and the script.

Two special guest Zombies created by lead makeup artist Kirstin Pawlicki then pressed the “go live” button on the film’s crowdfunding website www.indiegogo.com/theatre-of-the-dead, officially launching the campaign to raise capital from benevolent donations from the public.

“We hope to entice Zombie Fans as well as fans of theatre” said producer John Cougar. Writer/director Patrick J Gallagher added “We also worked hard in the script development stages to make it a strong ensemble piece so that hopefully fans of good drama will enjoy it too”.

The campaign will run for 75 days and will help to pay for productions costs such as Theatre hire and use, Insurance, Data/Media Storage, Make-Up, Catering, Armourer, Wardrobe and Props.

There are incentives to donate in the form of rewards which are structured in levels ranging from $10 all the way up to $500.

The film is slowly but surely building an online presence with the Facebook (www.facebook.com/theatreofthedead) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/totd_movie) fan pages growing daily as well as subscribers to the film’s website blog (www.theatreofthedead.com.au)
