The Canberra Feature Film Coalition

Theatre of the Dead is the first film to be developed through the recently formed Canberra Feature Film Coalition (CFFC).

The Canberra Feature Film Coalition is an umbrella group of filmmakers whose goal it is to create a sustainable feature film industry in the ACT and region. The CFFC members originate from varying sections of the film industry and come with varying levels of experience, many without current feature film credits.

The group was initially formed through Facebook in May 2011, which led to members meeting in person to discuss their aspirations for local feature film production.

The following mission statement was developed:

The aim of the Canberra Feature Film Coalition is to set up a process whereby low-budget, commercially viable genre films (horror, action, comedy) could be produced reasonably quickly by pooling available filmmaker resources, with the main aim to be a commercial venture that returns money in straight-to-video distribution markets.

While we want to make good films, we aren’t necessarily aiming at high art (not immediately, anyway). The aim is to start making money, building credits and building experience so that we can start doing people’s “dream projects” as well.

We understand that some people will have higher goals for their feature film ambitions, and that the CFFC aim of low-budget, commercially-oriented productions may not suit everyone.
